Wagging Tongues Utter Trouble
James 3:6 (KJV) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
Words can wound and wither a person. Like nails, you can remove them from wood, but the hole remains. So once a tongue wags evil, the wound to the soul can remain. Corruption comes from within as the tongue speaks from the condition of the soul, whether it is corrupt or full of life and language pleasing to God.
Oh, how shrill words can stoke a forest fire. A big rumbling fire sets out to destroy everything in its path. So do words uttered without the filter of God. Once words are out of a mouth, a person cannot simply reel them back like a fishing lure. No, once words are spoken, they linger in the air to wallop or embrace the hearer.
I hope you comprehend how much trouble your tongue can bring to yourself and others. God does not exaggerate. Loose tongues utter eternal trouble while words spoken under the control of the Spirit of God perpetually please Him and others. God’s language of love and grace is far from the fires kindled by a hell-bound tongue.
